S1 2019 - 2020
Hello and welcome to S1. We are a fun and lively class in the Sensory department. We have 6 pupils in class and 6 members of staff.
Meet the team:
Staff- Caroline, Jackie, Catrina, Matt, Evie and Terry
Pupils- Niamh, Rachel, Leo, Cerys, John and Sophie
As we are a class in the school's Sensory department we follow the Sensory Department Curriculum. This curriculum provides pupils with a personalised programme to develop their communication and cognitive skills. A day in the life of S1 would include class circle time and individual communication work- our pupils use a range of communication methods such as PECS and PODD, daily therapy sessions- these include Tac Pac, Rebound, Horse riding and Venture into Play, breaktime, individual IEP based work, lunchtime, outside play in the Sensory garden and a variety of afternoon lessons such as Swimming, Art, Sesnory circuits and Independent living skills. Our theme this term is Entertainment!
We ask for £2 a week per pupil to go towards class funds, this covers the cost of snack (toast, fruit, yoghurts etc) as well as juice and refreshments if we visit a cafe when out in the community. We also ask for £1 a week towards cookery/life skills each week.
This term we are focusing on independance in the community using money to pay for items and communicating what we would like when at the cafe.
On a Wednesday as a class we will be visting places of entertainment i.e cinemas, arcades, fun fairs, libraries, parks, theatre, lesuire centres and bowling allies to look at and explore.
As a department we are taking it in turns to go swimming and horseriding on a Thursday morning.
On Thursday afternoons S1 will be exploring the local area through senory walks.
