Work Experience

What is work experience?

Work Experience is gaining experience of what working life is like.

This could include experiencing the:

Work environment - being in the workplace and seeing what happens there.

Work activities and tasks - trying out the job, being given tasks and activities that are involved in a job, and learning new skills.

Developing work skills - using skills you already have in a real life workplace or setting

Work experience is usually unpaid and short term, although it can be long term if it is suiting your needs.

Why is work experience important?

Work experience is important because:

.Employers often ask for relevant experience. Sometimes this can mean employment. But sometimes gaining the relevant experience in other ways can be just as valuable. Employers and college value work experience highly.

.It is also an opportunity for you to find out what it’s like being at work and for you to understand the skills that are needed in the workplace. You will experience all the day to day workings of the business you have chosen to experience.

.You can find out more about a career that interests you, and see if it suits you.

.Some courses require you to show that you have done some relevant work experience.

                                               Who can it help?

Students can  access work experience placements independently or with full support to gain confidence and help with life skills.

Students will be introduced to the wide variety of placements we have on offer to enable them to make their own choices.

All our placements are vetted for health and safety to ensure all students are working in an environment conducive to their needs.
