Speech and Language Therapy
Ysgol Maes Hyfryd caters for learners with a range of communication difficulties, including those with social communication difficulties and those who are at a pre-intentional or early stage of communication development. Some of our pupils require augmentative forms of communication to enable their expressive and receptive language skill, such as Picture Exhange Communication System (PECS) and Pragmatic Organisational Dynamic Display (PODD). Pupils with additional communication needs receive support from our visiting speech and language therapist. The speech therapist will assess your child, set targets, share strategies and work in conjunction with school staff to ensure their communication needs are addressed and supported. In addition to this, Vicki Carding and Katie Fairclough are higher level teaching assistants whose roles is to support communication across the school. Vicki and Katie work in conjunction with the speech and language therapist to assess pupils, set targets and deliver programmes of work to individual or small groups of pupils. Vicki and Katie support the use of PECS and PODD with specific pupils across the school and provides in house support and training to school staff and parents.
