Visual Stimulation
Visual stimulation is an important part of our curriculum and therapeutic intervention for pupils who have a severe visual impairment. This involves developing skills in localising, fixating and tracking a visual stimulus such as a light source in high contrast conditions. At Ysgol Maes Hyfryd we have a specialist dark room for pupils who require high contrast conditions to develop and practice their visual skills. In addition to this, there are two specialist teachers trained in Multisensory Impairment based in the school’s sensory department who work closely with the sensory support service to assess and deliver regular programmes to develop visual skills. Some of our pupils who do not have a recognised visual impairment but present with limited visual attention will also access regular sessions to develop their visual and sensory integration skills as part of their daily therapy timetable.
